Hello,

I have a Lenovo y40 that I have been having graphics card driver issues. A couple of days ago I went to start a game, it went to a BSOD and an error message reading 0xa0000001. Now whenever I start any game it does that. I tried reinstalling the official Lenovo AMD drivers located on their website but as soon as I shut down the computer it went to BSOD with the same error message. I also did a complete factory reset but the problem is still there.

The battery on the laptop doesn't hold much charge and I have been having problems getting it to charge. I researched the graphics card error and it said something about the graphics card was not able to get enough power, so would that be my issue? Although it would seem that the power supply would provide enough power to power the card.

The problem is with the graphics card because games wil start when running in the Intel processor.

PC specs:

Lenovo y40, Windows 8.1, 64 bit.

Processor: Intel(R) Core (TM) i7-4510U CPU @ 2.00 GHz 2.59 GHz

Graphics card: AMD Radeon R9 275

RAM: 16 GB

I'm stumped. Does anyone have any ideas?

Conclusion
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

30 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. Only 10 are included in this report. A third party driver has been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

atikmdag.sys (ATI Radeon Kernel Mode Driver, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.)

If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination with the errors that have been reported for these drivers. Include the brand and model name of your computer as well in the query. This often yields interesting results from discussions on the web by users who have been experiencing similar problems.

Thanks

Edit: Thought i had it fixed earlier, but i guess not.

I opened the laptop and the fans seem to be running fine.

How would I go about checking the power?

Edit: I haven't been able to do it again but i unplugged the battery once and the computer went to a BSOD. Is there any possibility it could be the power supply?

If I remember correctly the very first time I had this problem I had accidentally unplugged the power cord and the battery ran out of power. I think the next time I tried to play a game it went to a BSOD. Would this be the problem?

I would boot into BIOS, update it or reset it to defaults. I would then update all of the motherboard drivers to the current version and reboot. You can test the external power but notebooks are harder to test.

I would think that if you have a battery with an internal short, it could make it so that the normal plug in does not provide proper power. You might remove the battery and try to run on the plug in power. Also, plug into the wall rather than a power strip.
