The Dell XPS comes with a 2nd generation Sandy Bridge Core i5/i7 CPU and either a nVidia GT 525M or GT 540M graphic card.

The Lenovo Y580 comes with a 3rd gen Ivy Bridge Core i5/i7 CPU and a nVidia GT 660M graphic card.

Assuming the same # of CPU cores and same clock speed, Ivy Bridge CPUs are roughly 5% faster than the older Sandy Bridge CPUs.

The nVidia GT 660M is slightly faster than the GT 560M and is significantly faster than a GT 540M.

There are two basic versions of the Y580. One has a 1366x768 resolution screen and the other has a 1920x1080 resolution screen with a higher base price.

The Dell XPS 15 only has a 1366x768 resolution screen.
