LG Cosmos 2 Key Functions

On the LG Cosmos 2 there are 2 key to the left side of the display. What are they for?
I can't figure them out.

They're menu selection buttons for when you have the phone open.

You can see in this image;

The one on the right would open the contacts menu, and the one on the left would open the messages.
