Hello!

I am looking for a laptop with good overall build quality and feel for the price range. The performance comes second, as long as I can play WoW at 60fps at lowest settings. A backlit keyboard is required for my usage, but battery life isn't important. Cooling shouldn't be an issue since the hardware probably won't get that hot for that price range. I will definitely consider refurbished or redistributed. I am currently looking at a laptop with an a10 processor or a core i5 broadwell with Intel hd 4400-4600. Dell has Inspiron 13/15 with backlit keyboard and options for those processors around that price range on EBay, but looking for other brands and choices as well. Thanks!

1. What is your budget?

- $400-600

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?

- 13-15.6"

3. What screen resolution do you want?

- 1600x900 is preferred, but it's not priority. A good quality 1366x768 is good as well. 1080p would be a sweet bonus!

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?

- No. I have a desktop machine that play my games just fine. This laptop is just to lounge and will be mostly plugged in, so not worried about performance as much as overall build quality and functionality, cooling, etc.

5. How much battery life do you need?

- Doesn't matter.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?

- World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor at native resolution of laptop at Low quality settings with a fluid 60fps if possible.

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)

- Watch YouTube videos @1080p without buffering due to hardware.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?

- Doesn't matter.

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.

- Doesn't matter, but one that takes PayPal is preferred. I live in the United States.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?

- A few years at least.

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?

- Doesn't matter what kind or if laptop even has a drive bay.

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.

- no real preference as long as it comes with the features I want. I generally look at asus, Dell, toshiba, when buying laptops, they tend to offer the most all around products for Least money in my experience.

13. What country do you live in?

- United States.

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.

- A backlit keyboard is a *must*.

- Overall feel and quality of laptop is more important than the performance.

- A quality 1366x768 screen is more preferred over a bad 1600x900, but a 1080p wins out, good or bad.

Solution
It will be very difficult to find a backlit keyboard at that price. I would say look at dell laptops as they are generally the best for budget machines which can handle light gaming,

Yes, I do realize that I won't have a great experience gaming or video editing, but as I posted earlier, I am not looking for anything super demanding gaming-wise. I'm looking to play native resolution at lowest settings available with as fluid of gameplay as possible. Integrated graphics are fine, and I'm leaning toward the A10 solutions as their processing power should be enough for low settings, even if its less efficient and slower than anything Intel offers, with graphics grunt to handle low settings at 720p and possibly 1080p.

I am just looking for different options for an overall decent build quality on the laptop, as in not a horrible lcd panel, backlit keys that don't break after a few months, a laptop that doesn't feel like it will fall apart if I touch it, etc, decent audio quality, etc. Just an overall good laptop computing experience, with extra bells and whistles that are traded off for decreased performance.

The laptops you suggested are good ones, although it would appear that they have pretty bad reviews based on the units received. Maybe I can find a deal on one of those elsewhere. Thank you!

I appreciate the feedback.

However, this laptop does not have a backlit-keyboard, and that is a deal-breaker for me currently. The other specs look great though!

Thanks for all the info!

I looked at the Hp envy x360 laptops as well as the Dell inspiron 13 7000. After some digging I found both of them to skimp in quality in certain areas such as screen quality and keyboard quality. Not really a surprise given the budget, but I wanted to keep looking.

I then looked at lenovo yoga tablets and the Microsoft surface pro tablets. I eventually settled on a seller refurbished surface pro 2 tablet with 256gb internal storage for $500 plus tax on eBay. It's only a 10.6" screen, but the display is gorgeous. It is also thicker than most tablets and won't downclock the internal hardware to keep cool (counter intuitive to most sleek and slim designs that can Heat up and throttle quickly). It also can function similarly to a laptop when combined with stylus and keyboard case - also backlit :)

The surface pro 3 is newer, but it throttles under load with anything graphical. However, the surface pro 2 can play warlords of draenor at 1920x1080p low settings at 60-80fps, so I'm happy!

Thank yall for the feedback.

It functions as a laptop, and has core i5 haswell with hd 4400. It has a backlit keyboard and a great display. It plays the game I want it to play at the fps I want it to be. It doesn't get hot and throttle.

The only thing it doesn't win is in size and not broadwell but haswell.

It's everything I wanted haha. I was just posting my decision making process to help others who might be in a similar situation.
