LOCKED OUT OF YOUR LAPTOP ?

We regularly get posts concerning BIOS level passwords on laptops.

These are implemented to prevent owners' data being accessed if the computer is mislaid or stolen. In the past it may have been possible to bypass this protection by removing the computer's lithium backup batteries. These days the password is likely to be stored in flash memory which goes on working without battery support.

So the only option we can recommend is to contact the manufacturer for a back door or hardware solution -- bear in mind there may be a charge and you will almost certainly be required to provide proof of legal ownership.
