Hi, I'm a student about to start college and seeing as my current laptop is basically falling apart and barely works anymore, my parents want to buy me a new laptop. Unfortunately none of us really know much about specs, good prices etc so I thought I'd ask people who know better than we do! I'd really love it to play The Sims 3 as I'm currently having to play it on the very old, very slow shared family computer which runs it really poorly, but I'm not sure if I could get anything within our budget that runs it. Any help would be much appreciated!
1. What is your budget?
£400 maximum.
2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
I don't mind, as long as it isn't ridiculously small.
3. What screen resolution do you want?
Again, I don't mind.
4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Portable. It doesn't necessarily have to be lightweight or anything but I want it to be portable.
5. How much battery life do you need?
This isn't an issue either as I have it plugged in 99% of of the time.
6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
Yeah, I'd really like to be able to play The Sims 3. Being able to play expansion packs would be nice too but it is by no means necessary. Settings don't matter either, I'd be fine playing it with settings on low.
7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Not much, I just like to browse the internet, play music, watch YouTube videos, etc. I'll probably be doing things like word processing too as part of classwork.
8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
Again, not much, storage has never been an issue for me. I don't download a lot.
9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
Any big, well-known stores, companies or websites, like PC World or Amazon. Nothing obscure, we'd like a site that's popular and known to be trustworthy.
10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
As long as possible, hopefully several years.
11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
Just DVD ROM will be fine, I only need to be able to install disc-based games and import CDs.
12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
We don't have much experience with different brands. I've particularly heard good things about Asus but I'd be fine with any brand. My last laptop was Dell and it wasn't great and the customer service was pretty poor, so preferably not Dell, but I will buy another one if it's the best option.
13. What country do you live in?
England.
14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
How it looks is irrelevant, I just want something that's reliable and functions well. Basically I just want the laptop with the best specs I can get for £400 or under!
Thanks in advance for any advice! ^^
