So the title pretty much says it all.

I've been looking at the ASUS ROG G751JT-WH71(WX) (http://www.amazon.com/G751JT-WH71-WX-17-Inch-GeForce-Version/dp/B015QZVAF2/ref=sr_1_14?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1458550325&sr=1-14&refinements=p_n_availability%3A1248800011%2Cp_74%3A100000-149999%2Cp_n_intended_use_browse-bin%3A9647497011).

And also, the slightly cheaper Dell Inspiron i7559-763BLK (http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i7559-763BLK-Full-HD-GeForce/dp/B015PYYDMQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1458558397&sr=8-1&keywords=dell+i7559-763blk).

I plan to do some light gaming (mainly Dota 2 alongside the occasional AAA title with a graphic setting that'll look decent (Medium or above) and also use the laptop for work and uni, so a decent battery life would also be nice, but not essential. Thanks in advance.

Frankly speaking 1st laptop is a waste for your usecase. Just get the second, no point in wasting that much. Second one is capable of running everything in the next few years, at low settings, but the mainstream titles will run great. Sure if you want to run on decent settings, first one is a killer, and no doubt the better choice but let's not forget it's bigger, heavier, and meant to be a desktop replacement.

Thanks for the advice. The prospect of lugging the ASUS was daunting to say the least. I was only jonesing for the ASUS because the GTX 970M was reportedly a 60% better performer than the 960m. I managed to snag the UHD Touch version of the i7559 (before the tax rebate), and am hoping it doesn't disappoint. Thanks again :)
