Looking for a Laptop

Hello,
I'm looking for a laptop for school use. I need it to have a large hard-drive capacity, needs to be fast enough to stream video, and have a word processing capability. I haven't been able to properly ask anyone in a store because I always seem to get the pushy sales man trying to get me to buy the most expensive model with all the bells and whistles.

It would help alot to get some information from someone who knows what they are talking about and who isn't just talking outof their butts.

So many related questions to ask you like - your budget, screen size, need DVD/CD drive or not etc.
