Okay, I'm looking for a replacement work laptop. It'll be purchased by my employer, they have a few specific requirements, and I have a few of my own. I'll fill in the usual copypasta:
1. What is your budget?
$1500, including taxes and a two-year on-site warranty.
2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
Under 17", unless that's the only size that would meet the spec.
Would happily go for a 17" 1920x1200
3. What screen resolution do you want?
1920x1080 or better
4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Portability is a bonus, not a requirement.
5. How much battery life do you need?
Two hours under a moderate CPU load.
6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
No games, work only.
7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
It'll be a dev machine - a few databases, web server, some GIS engines.
8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
256GB
9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
No preferences.
10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
Two years.
11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
A DVD drive would be a good thing, but is NOT required.
12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
No preferences.
13. What country do you live in?
United States
14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
The requirements:
-Two year, on-site service warranty.
-1080p (or better) display.
-256GB (or larger) SSD
-8GB (or more) RAM
-A physical Ethernet port
-An HDMI port
-At least two USB (2 or 3) ports
The wants:
-Would prefer a Haswell-based chip, but Ivy Bridge is fine
-No need (or really even want) for a discrete GPU
-If the processor supports virtualization, that's a good bonus
So, if anyone knows of a company offering laptops to this spec at this price range, kindly let me know
