Buying a refurbished Alienware with warranty from Dell will be the best deal I think. Go with the i7-6700HQ variant.

If you want to buy the new laptop then checkout this Dell Inspiron laptop - https://www.amazon.com/Dell-i7559-7512GRY-Touchscreen-Generation-Processor/dp/B015PYZ0J6/

It is bang for buck right now at just $799. It has i7-6700HQ, 1TB HDD + 8GB SSD, Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M and 8GB RAM which you can expand up to 16GB. If you want something powerful and affordable then this Dell laptop is a steal deal right now.

Yes, not a huge huge fan of the inspiron due to incredibly cheap build quality. the entire laptop easily flexes just moving it around, saw someone bend the lid and it just looked cheap as you can get. I do like the alienware, but for that much money will a 970m be relevant for a while or should i save $200 and get one with a 1060.

I think you mean 960 and not 1060?

Well, the laptop with 960 will also be able to handle all the works which you mentioned but the reason why I picked one with 970 is its bigger display and I also think that 970 will somewhere make a huge difference. Especially for your everyday works as you are into game development. 970 will be also better for VR (if you are into it).

And, I do believe that Dell Inspiron build quality is not as good as other laptops but it isn't that bad or deal breaking to not buy it. I am talking especially about this Inspiron model.

I mean 1060 as alienware 15 comes with 1060 for $1380. Which is why I was asking if I should save up and get newer alienware. Because the 1060 is really powerful in a laptop was playing Witcher 3 at ultra at over 60fps in 1080p and even mildly handled 4k. Been watching gameplay of it.
