Hi, I'm looking for a laptop to use mostly for browsing, watching videos, word processing, etc. (stuff that most college students do). I'm having difficulty looking for a good laptop since most recommended laptops at this price range are chromebooks (most chromebooks have like only 64gb of storage available). I prefer portability, hdd space, and battery than anything else. I don't really care about the cpu/gpu/ram since I'll be only using a lightweight linux distro. thanks

1. What is your budget?
~300usd

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
Compact. Not to heavy and fits in a small (kinda) backpack

3. What screen resolution do you want?
at least 1366*768 I think. I don't really mind

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Portable

5. How much battery life do you need?
5-10h. I think this is the most important factor.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
No. I'll trade off speed for hdd space, battery, or build quality

7. What tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Nothing cpu demanding. probably just browsing, word processing.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
500gb if there's one in this price range. Otherwise at least 250gb.

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
2 years?

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
Idk the differences between brands. Any brand will probably do.

13. What country do you live in?
Not relevant. I have access to most popular brands.

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.

Under $300 are usually some pretty basic laptops. No real recommendation there other then to walk into a retail store and see what they have. There should be some low-end Intel or AMD APU based systems in that price range.

If you head here there is a collection of Black Friday and other deals.

There are some okay laptops under $300, mostly older refurbs.

Newegg should have a large selection of used business laptops to look at. I suggest looking at 4th generation or new Intel i5 laptops for battery life.

Most laptops in this price range won't have a 10 hour battery life either. Though if you aren't constantly using it, a battery in a late model laptop can last many hours more then they specify. Even sitting idle.
