I currently have a dell Inspiron 8500 which is running ok but could be faster. I am looking to upgrade and either pass this one on to my son or to use it as a dedicate work machine. I am not sure but considering purchasing something on a kind of tight budget. $600

Are you looking for gaming machine?
ASUS G60VX C2D P7450(2.13GHz) CPU 16" 1366 x 768 LCD and GTX 260M (a pretty potent gaming machine - but using 3 generation old CPU and GPU)

Toshiba Satellite L675D AMD Turion II P520 CPU 17" 1600x900 LCD and HD 4250 graphics (suitable only for very limited 3D gaming but pretty good in the home entertainment video area)

Dell Inspiron 1545 Pentium T4500 2.3GHz CPU 15.6" 1366x768 LCD and Intel 4500M HD GMA graphics (even less able at 3D gaming, marginal @ home entertainment video... and only 2GB RAM also has hardware 3 generations out of date)

You think we're confused a bit about what you actually want/need?

Not really looking to game much since I do most of my gaming on the PS3. Really looking to get a reliable machine surfing, research, movies, blu ray or at least high quality DVD. I dont think I am asking for a lot just a reliable simple machine.
