Lost account and related data/programs

Running windows 8 on an acer aspire laptop(home use), we had 3 accounts and mine was the administrator. After a couple of weeks I have returned to the laptop and my account is gone, with my girlfriends now the administrator (though it has changed name). I have full access, but fear that all of my data and programs built up over a year may be gone-is there anyway of finding out if my account and data still exist or can be recovered. She cannot even explain to me what she did.......also, how can I override all these security complications so this cannot happen again?

go to the manage users section, they may be hidden.

see if you can restore the whole machine to an earlier state? save newer manually created files onto a usb stick.

Don't make your girlfriend the administrator so she can't lock you out of your system.
