Microsoft Banning Those Who Pirate Halo: Reach

It's a pirated game for Jtagged consoles. I'm sure the latter is going to get you a ban fast enough regardless the game. It's already considered an axiom among those with a Jtagged 360 that Live is off limits anyway. So, yeah... duh.
 
So just play it disconnected, then uninstall before reconnecting online.

The media needs to start referring to this as the Halo: Breach (of security).
 
Why would anyone think that can play a pirated game over a network owned, operated, and administered by the company they are pirating the game from, and expect to get away with it?

That would be like stealing a car off a dealers lot, then returning to that same dealer to get your oil changed.

Good. The fools who pirated the game should have seen this coming a mile away.
 
So when a 360 is banned... I gather their value is almost none? I'd gather GameStop would check to see if the hardware itself is not banned, eh?

That's relative to what you really do with the console. Jtagged consoles aren't a 'pure piracy' mod, they're about unsigned code. With that kind of mod you can run whatever you want like a jail-broken iPhone. With that in mind you could fence it for a lot more through other channels than you ever could through Console-GameStop banned or otherwise.

This 'Reach' breach is specifically for Jtag mods, not your typical modded DVD-ROM drive. It's not like there's a Disc ISO floating around on torrents. You don't have to play an early release game online to get a Jtag mod banned, just leave it connected for a while with Xbox Live Silver. Playing any game before release, however, ups the risk of any mod.

I'm sure that Microsoft would/could never collect a list of previously played games in NVRAM or on the hard disk...

better wipe that 360 fully.
 
heh, if I jtag mine I wouldn't use it online anyway. banning players from live just does one of two things: sells another new console which they don't make much (if any) money off of and also makes it so players don't buy subscriptions and/or programs from xbox live itself. it is a lose lose situation for m$ in my opinion. this is just my opinion on it though.

but on the other hand, getting banned for a pirated version of a halo game that doesn't take a lot of brains..the game is not that important. it's a been there, done that sort of thing. we need someone to come out with something more interesting to play as an fps.
 
So I don't get it...how is this news? I thought it was obvious and regular procedure to ban users playing illegal copies of any game. Regardless if it is before or after release...
 
Anyone dumb enough to think they could get away with playing a pirated copy of a 360 game before its release really deserves whatever punishment Microsoft deals out...
