It's sad as to what the meaning of hardcore has morphed into. For this old school gamer and his friends, hardcore meant that if there was a game worth playing, we played it. Didn't care where, how, or what is was on.

Anything from Pong, to the large MechWarrior simulators at cons that had like 80+ buttons/controls, none of which had pause marked on it. We will still pull out the old Atari and play some Combat or River Raid along with playing CS on our i7's with 5970's.

Hardcore gamers play anything and beat people at it.

its almost as sad as the term "tech nerd" now meaning someone who will talk at length about the appearance of the next apple product, and can regurgitate what Steve says with style.

This guy is an idiot. I'm a hardcore gamer, and the only thing that remotely interests me about this gimmiky hunk of junk thusfar is the ability to control the dashboard with it.

But that in and of itself is not worth anywhere close to $150

well, the ones who play an xbox are the males of the house. that means it's like that secret porn stash for men, except it isn't porn but some fetish about video games. so why would these males bother to buy a product where it can ruin their secret "porn stash" collection?

no hardcore will buy this garbage! e3 proves it when there was dissatisfaction by the hardcore gamers. this is a lie and there are marketers running around this comment site.

oh remember, do the hardcores want to stand up to play or simply to turn on or to do simple navigation?! no hardcore. heck no idiot would want to stand up just to do those things. this is a total failed product.

[citation][nom]soldier37[/nom]Really hardcore gamers and crapbox do not mix! Hardcore gamers are us adults with multi thousand dollar setups thank you! Consoles are for the teenie boppers whos parents buy them. Minus the ones that bought a PS3 for a blu ray player like myself for it was the best of its time and still is as far as a media center. Microsoft is certainly milking the teet on this cow 5 year old outdated garbage![/citation]

this si about as back ass ward as an opinion can get bro

I'm a PC gamer and i'm 30 years old , but i also go to school for game art design so i know the actual numbers , and beleive it or not , most consolers are atleast 18 to 35 years old, so saying that consoles are just for teenies that got thier parents to buy it for them is a gross fallacy. in all truth youa re jsut one of those "pc" fanboys that lieks getting on here , to crap talk consoel gamers , and generlaly give us PC gmaer's an all around arrogant snotty and bad image. so pelase shut up before console gamers start thinking all of us PC gamers are like you.

P.S. i have some consoles and get some games on console as well , just to clear the record , but i am for the most part a pc gamer spending 10 x the time on my pc than what i spend on any of my consoles.

The kinect is not an evolution or step forward any way you look at it...it is gonna power down an already anachronistic console and the only potential application I can see is in non gaming applications like watching movies and stuff.Frankly Kinect could turn to be a pain in the ass if it registered every involuntary gesture as well..

Kinect got to have more games for the core audience. That is why I like the Move. Killzone 3 and SOCOM 4 will be compatible. I think Kinect will do good if they have the right games.

[citation][nom]Klatu[/nom]Hardcore gamers do not play on consoles? This article is ABOUT console gaming, so why are you here? Trolling for attention? This is the year 2010 my friend, PC gaming is DEAD, relocated to the back of the "antiquated" isle, next to the zip drives and 3.5 floppies. Consoles are IN thing now buddy. You can keep updating your drives and graphics cards every year, I like the rest of the world have moved on. Get with the program already, END OF STORY! PS, that members only jacket ain't helping.[/citation]

Exactly what do you mean by that, because most of the best games are on the computer in the first place and you talk about how we upgrade our computers all of the time, we do that so we can have better graphics, have less lag and more precision so we can make sure we have the advantage over our enemy/opponents.

I prefer the pc and ps3 because then you got it all because in the first place most of what they call "xbox360 exclusive" games are mostly of the pc too. Halo and GOWA really the only things you wouldn't be able to play. But in the end its all up to your preference and how much money you have so all of you SHUT UP about whats better!

I don't see any great titles on the horizon for the pc anytime soon apart from starcraft 2 and even crysis is being ported to consoles....Yea I know having a great rig gives u bragging rights and all but then again the number of pc exclusive or titles that take full advantage of your hardware are few and far between.

While the tiger is adorable, and kinect may even work well, I don't see this actually being very popular.
The player base that has built the 360 into what it is, and what MS targeted it for, as well as the PS3, never wanted this.
If they did, again, they would have bought a Wii.
If MS or Sony wanted to target the Wii's demographic they should have done it ages ago, and less expensive, like Nintendo already did.
My fear is that otherwise good games will be ruined by trying to foist this thing into our hands (or... not so much hands... but, well you understand) and shoehorn it into situations where it doesn't belong.

This thing, like all other late-term addons ever, will either be forgotten, or used for some exclusive titles like the:

Eye toy.
Power glove.
U-force.
Dance Dance Revolution Pads.
and Lightguns.

To be done correctly, with any chance of adoption, it should have been done as part of the system identity in the first place.
By the time either device gets "good" and really relevant killer apps, it will be really too late for this generation of consoles at least.

Finally, WTF comprises a "hardcore" gamer anyway? If it's determined by the guy who's willing to spend the most, than the fellow who (with vitriol, granted) suggested that PC gamers are the "hardcore" ones, he's probably correct by that definition.

I would expect it's the buyers are the potential gamer who is uninterested in the current crop of games, for whatever reason, but is intrigued by playing with a clever new controller. The vast majority (hardcore or not) of gamers who already have the 360/PS3 were/are clearly already content.
Honestly, how many people are left, that didn't already buy a much cheaper Wii, with way more titles are planning to buy a MS/Sony experiment that the companies can just abandon if they don't like, it's happened a hundred times before. Nintendo can't give up on the Wii, it's a safer purchase.

I consider myself a hardcore gamer: I had an atari, a nes, a genesis and a dreamcast (which was my last console), not mentioning pc gaming, which I have been doing since the late 80's (even participating in a professional CS championship a few years back here in my country). In the past few years I had the opportunity to try this generation of consoles and enjoyed a couple of games.

Now to the point, I find the Kinectic to be an interesting add-on to the xbox, and brings new possibilities for gamers (eventough the initial batch of games doesn't include more "hardcore" games), which in the end are looking for fun and new experiences, which in my view is exactly what the Kinectic potential is: new experiences and fun. Maybe the initial headline isn't the most exciting at all, but surely there will be a lot of great games for it (wasn't this what happened to the wii? The "hardcore" games came later on, during the first year?)

PS - The same goes to PS3 move and 3D gaming (I'm not biased towards any console).

A hardcore gamer, no matter what system uses, can play any game at least for 6 to 8 hours at night (no one to bother you), every day. I don´t see myself playing any game for 6 hors straight making gestures, if I do I should be at the olimpics, I remember playing TOCA race driver for long hours, and doing gestures seem imposible for that long, or perhaps we would see a new generation of extremely fit hardcore gamers
