Unless everyone here bashing Apple is running Linux, it seems kind of hypocritical to be unilaterally bashing them when Microsoft has locked all Metro apps (the future of Windows) to being sold from their app store, a move even Apple hasn't had the cojones to try yet - although OS X defaults now to being locked down and if MS gets away with it they'll probably join them.

I mentioned that MS is starting this practice as well. They're following the iOS app model because they see how successful it's been for Apple. Not sure what MS rules are on in app purchases, or purchases through web browser for app items (music, videos, etc.), but it's a big problem.

Hopefully the government steps in and stops these locked down anti-competitive practices because in the end we all lose. Companies won't stop on their own because it's too profitable for them to control and profit from everything within their ecosystem.

Apple set the trend, the others are now following.
