Monitor what files are being installed by an .exe?

Installing some nefarious files some times, I was wondering if there was any way to monitor the installation in a sandboxed OS first, just to give a perfunctory visual check to see if anything is out of the ordinary?

In another user's recent post I see that they mentioned ExamDiff, could that be what I'm looking for? or is there something better?

Process Monitor http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx

And many windows installer package builders include a utility to watch a setup file like Wise. Although those tend to be pricy.
