"Porn" and "Internet" are two words that never should be placed after "Cracking down on" but the Chinese government thinks it can do something about it.

china . lol . and most of the people there are more like us for any matter , i'm sure , its always the leadership , and maoist single totalitarian party beliefs in this case , that i lol'ed at .

as a true example of this leadership and its long term aims , not to condemn the common people which more or less are like us in india , yeah except the looks , they invaded us right after proclaiming friendship in 1960's .

WTF? Porn is the only thing capable of slowing that population growth... Well that or the eventual starvation of just about everyone

[citation][nom]invalid777[/nom]All I can think of is that it's the unnatural porn the Chinese government is trying to stamp out.[/citation]

First off, it's just regular porn we are talking about in this article.

Secondly, there is no such thing as "unnatural." Nature includes everything in existance. You can't have "non-nature" or "anti-nature" (you can have anti-matter, but that's still part of nature).

I believe what you intended to refer to is harmful pornography (in that it involves people incapable of understanding and consenting to the situation and therefore capable of being abused (aka child pornography)).

Most people may not agree with Chinese government. Chinese tradition(Garage In Garage out). That problem with these country(USA) the proof is in the pudding. Maybe are government may learn something from this.

[citation][nom]back_by_demand[/nom]Huh??? Dude, the guy just quoted directly from 1984, he's not ranting. But unless these 5394 arrests were for using a laptop to display kiddy porn over a projector in a town square then what a person chooses to do in the sanctity of their own home is nothing to do with the Government.Get this, porn magazines are not illegal, neither are VHS or DVD porn movies (assuming the content isn't animals, kids, etc) so the actual content isn't the issue, it's the delivery method. This is all about Governmental control freakery. If some Chinese dude wants to log onto www.youporn.com and spank the monkey till his arms look like Popeye then you should let him. At least he's not out knocking up some woman and producing yet another ant for the farm. Plus it keeps the tissue and lube industry busy.[/citation]Thanks for the explanation but I didn't say he was ranting. If you couldn't tell by what I typed that I was being silly than I don't know what to tell you. Please stop sticking up for your buddy. I wasn't attacking him.

At first, I thought this about about child porn and I was happy to see such a large amount of arrest. I decided to read more closely and discovered that this involved adult porn. I am all for keep sex in the bedroom and off camera, but arresting people for adult pornography is ridiculous.

As crazy as this is, this is how China operates. The issues is that there are those of us who are free to watch porn that must worry. Well, it is not really just about porn, it is about freedom in general. There are other governments that would very much like to cut off access to freedom, and it is actions like this that start such a decline. I am for protecting children and protect those that have their choice taken from them, but I am not for slashing at people's freedom to impose ridiculous standards.

First it is the porn, then it will be gun, then it will be religion, then it will be our life. Keep a watch, lest you be next.

Montezuma, they have already well and truly stamped out most religions in China, which, as a personal opinion is one of the things they did right, at least they don't generally have religion interfering with politics. Mostly what they are trying to do is arrest people who are say, using webcam chats to get strip teases, which is somewhat normal on western web if you've visited virtually any notworking ("notworking" all rights reserved theregister.co.uk) site. Hell they don't have access to Facebook most of the time because of this. Mostly because anyone can access a webcam in the privacy of their own home, there's no way to control access to the explicit imagery. It's all about control, buying a XXX dvd requires that you leave the house, track down a dvd shop and then face someone when you buy it, same with magazines and so forth, there's some public scrutiny on the action this is what is missing on the web and that is why they are attacking this particular distribution method.

I would like to point out that:

Some countries allow prostitution some dont
Some countries allow Light drugs some dont
Some countries allow Death penalty some dont
Some countries allow pornography some dont

I just watched some porn in protest, i didnt have any chinese porn so I had to make do with other asians

So many of you are missing the point... This is not the stop a 30 yr old from tossing his salad, its to stop people who should not be looking at this to get a hold of the material. Also, this will aid in preventing child porn and all the other sick shit out there. You cant limit it to just older people or the "wrong" type of porn, so ban it all!

I think its smart even though many dont agree. And to those who spank there monkeys from the porn you have, try get a real woman!
