Moving HDD from HP laptop to new Acer Laptop

So I just bought a new laptop which is the Acer Aspire VX 15 Gaming laptop and I was wondering if I can move my hard drive from my old HP laptop onto my new laptop since it has limited space.

It won't work because the Windows system is based on the wrong manufacturer's allocated product codes. You could use it as an external drive to ease the pressure on the new machine's hard disk.

The only way it would work is if you wipe the HP drive then clone the system from the Acer to that older disk.
