MSI 980 vs Gigabyte 970 Extreme

so im looking for a graphics card and wondering what the difference is between a MSI GeForce GTX 980 Graphics Card, and a Gigabyte GTX 970 Extreme addition. i've heard that every 980 will be better than any 970 even the worst 980's and seeing as the msi one i mentioned here is only $100 more i was wondering if it is worth it to spend that extra 100 dollars. I know if i get this i will have to invest in a new PSU as im running a 500w "crappy" power supply by tigerdirect ultra. So i want to ask and get other peoples opinions.

Well, get the 970 and a non crap psu is my suggestion. If you had decent enough power supply and had the extra 100 dollars I would aim you at the 980

Well i'm not in a rush to buy one so technically moneys not an issue, since i will save up whatever i need to get the best playing experience,i'm just looking for the best option.

Do you think its still best to do that even with these surcumstances?
Plus i really like the led effect on the 970 exteme but want to know if its more benefitial considering the price gap between the too compared to performance gap?

I suppose that depends how long you plan to save money for. I mean really 3 months from now prices may vary wildly. Have you Considered that a 390 may be a better option as it lands between the two cards? Mind you all options require a better power supply.

yeah these are some things to consider, thank you for all your help ill have to think wether i want the 970 980 or maybe even the 390 as im running a amd card right now!!
