I'm a nonworking student, so my budget is a bit low. :/ Help me pick between the two.

MSI GE60
15.6-in. FHD (1920x1080)
i5-3210 2.5GHz
GTX660M 2Gb GDDR5

Lenovo Y580
15.6 WLED (1366 x 768)
i7 3630QM 2.4GHz
GTX660M 2GB DDR5

I know the resolution for the Y580 is terrible, but it still has a better processor. I can't afford to upgrade it to 1080p.

What I really want to know is, how bad is the i5-3210 compared with i7 3630QM in terms of gaming performance? Which one is a better choice, overall?

Personally I'd go with the MSI simply because I cannot stand reading text while looking at an HD screen. Where did you find a GE60 with an I5 processor? I've only seen the I7 versions. I've also had trouble finding (Except on Ebay) Y580's that don't have a FHD screen.

I remember in November the GE60 with I7 3610QM and GT650m was going for $939 at the time but now the cheapest model is $1149. There was also an offer for the Y580 I7 3630QM/10QM GTX 660m for $900-$999.

So I'd go with the GE60 but that's just my opinion. :) Good Luck Hunting
HP has some decent offers sometimes if you don't mind the cheap build

Not to be rude but I don't want to get into a huge argument with you. Everyday more and more people are going mobile and I don't think he needs the laptop to do anything demanding. Simply offering him advice to build a tower is useless (in this case) because it is common knowledge.

I live in Malaysia, and a local store still sells the older version of the GE60 with the i5, and the cheaper Y580.
Thanks for the input. I'm leaning towards the MSI now as well.

P.S. -sigh- I would have picked the FORCE/MSI 16f3 ( http://www.xoticpc.com/forcemsi-16f3-22001-670m-msi-gt60-barebones-p-4346.html ), but international shipping scares me.
