MX11

Hello All,

Looking to buy an Alienware MX11 with 4 Gigs of RAM for around 600.00. I'm looking at the 1.3Ghz Core 2 Duo version (obviously the older model on clearance) that's overclockable in the MX11 laptop made by alienware. I want to be able to run World of Warcraft at decent settings when on the go, so I'm just curious if that processor is enough to handle it? I thought of looking at the newer more expensive MX11 with the I7, but the cost is roughly 400 bucks more and for WoW onlyl, I'm just not sure if it's worth it. I have read that the Graphics card in the MX11 is more than adaquate, but I know WoW is a CPU hog as well.

i would give a different advice as you can get much better gaming ready laptop. But for 599$ you cant go wrong with M11x with SU7300 but it will not handle most games high graphics smoothly because of slower ultra low voltage Core 2 duo. If you are buying M11 with i7 just for portability and stylish look then its ok go with it, otherwise you can get much better laptops even under 1000$ range. and another thing which i want to tell you, however if you buy M11 with i7, that i7 will be even more slower than normal i3 , reason is because the i7 in M11 will be ultra low voltage too like SU7300 C2D, so its better to go with other options.

Thanks for the reply. Do you think the 599.00 MX11 will be good enough to handle WoW with the Cataclysm launch? I'm referring to the core 2 duo version, as budget is important to me right now. I'm not looking for the ultimate gaming laptop, just something that will be enough to run WoW on medium settings when I'm on the go. Thanks!

One of the highlights of the M11x is it's battery life, which is ~3 times that of the Y560, on average. Another is the size; the M11x is a lot smaller (while still managing to remain much cooler). It's designed to be much more portable than 15"+ laptops, and it excels in this.

@kyranvale, check out this vid. It's the M11x r1 playing WoW @ 1080p (external monitor). Same model as the one you're looking at, including the 4GB of RAM.

I don't see why you'd have any problems. You'll be using it with a FHD monitor/TV, right?

Yeah probably. Or if I'm on the go, would there be any problems with me using the actual laptop display, let's say if I'm on a plane?

It'd work. It might not look that great, because (if I'm not wrong) the Blu-ray player would downscale the video to 720p, and the laptop would then upscale it to 768p. But you'd still have a picture.

yeah i clearly mentioned ultra low voltage that means battery life atleast 2.5 times than than that of normal laptops, but you can not get the performance with it, as even i7 of low voltage will perform as 2,3 years core 2 duo. If battery is the issue you can go with Acer Timeline with ATI radeon 5650+intel HD (swictable). BTW its your choice.

The Acer TimelineX laptops are great; I was actually looking to get one for myself. The only problem is that the 5650 variants aren't available in the US (the 4820TG has been "unavailable" for some time now, the 3820TG will probably never hit the US), and with the M11x at $550 until the 18th (iirc), they're not in the same category. An i5/5650 3820TG imported to the US will cost over $900.

I see it on Newegg. Oh, temptation. The only thing that's stopping me from buying it (besides that it's out of stock) is that I'd still want a 3820TG.
