Solved! My Asus laptop doesn’t start up properly

When I press the power button, the computer starts up like normal, but when it gets to the Windows home screen, it freezes. Ordinarily at this point, I can press any key and the login box appears, but it doesn’t. It almost seems like the keyboard is disconnected.

Try connecting an external keyboard and see if it will work. If it does, then the attached one is either disconnected or needs replacing.

I managed to boot it up in safe mode and the keyboard works. I did a restore to a point before the last critical update but it doesn’t have any effect.

It may not have been an update that was the cause. You might want to do a restore to a point farther back.
