Hello guys, i have a question to ask, as i have so little knowledge in computer and my friend ask me if i would like to buy MSI PE70 6QE from him for 330 pounds (he said it is a excellent laptop but i don't know anything about computer >_<)

He tell me the specification is
I7 6700HQ
ddr 4 ram 16gb (8gb x 2)
ssd 120gb
gtx960m 2gb
17.3 inch

he said battery can hold charge for about 1.30 hrs and it can also play modern games.

So, i would like to ask is the price he ask for is ok with the specification of the laptop?

That's a pretty decent deal actually - if you want a laptop.

It's got some pretty good spec... the GPU isn't the greatest, but still capable of playing modern titles @ 1080p.... I'd expect medium presets more often than not.

If the SSD is the only storage though, that's tough (although an 'easy' upgrade, either internally or with an external HDD).

Is there anything wrong with it? Can you find anything with similar specs for the same price? I'm not familiar with your local market so I can't say for sure it's a good deal. But it seems like it should be something you consider.

I have asked him and he say it works just fine, but the storage size is only 120gb (ssd) though.

I don't know much about laptiop but i see other selling with similar spec but it has i7 with U in the back so i'm not to sure if it similar or not.

U is a lower voltage/wattage CPU. Meaning it should have a better battery life at the cost of a bit of speed. A 6700HQ and 6700U CPU should perform around the same, but the 6700U will be a bit slower with a bit better battery life. (For the record I don't think there is a 6700U, only a 6300U.) If there are similar units at a similar cost than at least you know he isn't giving you the "friends and family" discount. But at least he isn't selling you something for more than it's worth either.

FWIW, there is an i7-6600U and an i7-6500U (and both are only dual core). Either of those is only about half as powerful as the i7-6700HQ, so your comment about them being only a bit slower than the i7-6700HQ is not accurate, at least for multi-thread applications. :D

I didn't see those, only the 6300U. Half the cores but with similar speeds. Many tasks will be similar in performance, though as you said the multi thread things will hurt the 6600U. To get back on track, that's what the U means. Common in laptops. I'd try to get it for a bit less. I would hope a friend would sell it to me as a better deal.

There is no i7-6300U. Only the i5-6300U.
