Solved! my headphones are connected ONLY to my TV on mute. When I am not using headphones and try to un-mute I get no sound from tV

Usually when you plug the headphones in it cuts off the built in speakers whether you mute the TV or not. This is a mechanical disconnection of the ground wire going to the TV speakers. It's not controlled by the TV remote.
If you TV manual says something else that would be rare
