I assumed it would work without the battery if it was connected. My charging port maybe not connecting.my laptop should work with or without the battery.

Not all laptops will work when the battery is dead or removed, plugged in or not. Some are set up that way.

So which pin or terminal is it that tells the computer that there is a battery present allowing it to turn on ? You should be able to connect that pin to the ground pin tricking the laptop into thinking its there should you not ?

Not something I would personally recommend doing, as you can do damage that way. But it isn't my device.
