My Laptop doesn't work while plugged in but it works with the battery.

Is it the AC Adapter?

I tried to plug it in while the laptop is running on the battery only. but I Only got a pulsing light on the power. I have a Toshiba sattelite L740.

Hi,

Please do try troubleshooting steps that may help.
- First, remove the battery off the laptop then connect just the AC adapter and see if the laptop will boot up or not.
- If the laptop will boot up normally using the just the AC adapter that means it should be okay.
- While the laptop is on put the battery back in and see if it will charge or not.
- But if the laptop will not boot up with just the AC adapter that means replacing it would be the only solution.

Sounds like possibly the laptops connector for the AC input may be damaged, or the power adapter itself, will it charge the battery with the laptop off?

Update! I might have come up with the cause of the problem. turns out that i have left it plugged in on monday while i was at work then there was a lightning strike just near our house. Could that possibly be the cause of the problem?

No it wouldn't charge with the laptop turned off, just some blinking light.
