It's a long long story, starting with an eBay/Paypal sale gone VERY WRONG .
My laptop couldn't be delivered to the "confirmed address" on the Paypal
payment because it turned out to be a hijacked account, a post office in
Texas somewhere returned it to me. It was insured for the FULL amount of
the winning bid .. The auction was for a new HP Pavillion - 17 inch
monitor - 7000 series ... 80 gig hard drive .. DVD .. blah blah ... I had
requested that the package MUST be signed for [had to be covered under
Paypal's seller protection policy. Not certified, but something else.
Something that meant "special handling."
On Thursday at my office I checked the Post office website for the delivery
confirmation and see the computer had been returned to me in Deltona,
Florida. I figure there is probably a slip in my mailbox to come get it. I
didn't check the mailbox on Thursday night, but I checked it on Friday night
and there was still no notice ...
We were in the process of building a little pen on the side of the front
step, a walled area, but no cover, for my tortoises. Saturday morning I
went outside to measure so I could go get some cinder blocks .. that is
when I first noticed the laptop. The two previous days the temp reached 100
degrees - but the POURING RAIN cooled things off a few times each day.
The box was dry but flimsy .. I took out the laptop and it appeared to be ok
... but when I first turned it on the keys didn't work right .. guess it got
wet or damp inside .. and the screen was a bit foggy. I left it running for
a few hours and eventually it all dried up. The keyboard starting working
fine, the monitor was clear .. I didn't try the CD-rom or try to connect to
our network .. I was too irritated.
FINALLY TO MY QUESTION ... or questions.
1] This is NOT acceptable, right ?? Or am I being picky by saying it is not
?? After all . . it is working fine now.
2] Could the water and heat have done any damage that won't show up until
later ???
I go to the post office tomorrow, they want the package - the computer - my
receipts ... etc ...
Do I make a claim ?? and if so, on what grounds ??
Thanks, just need some pros to tell me their opinion.
