my toshiba laptop came with windows 8.1 installed. It has since died. how to i get the product key to do a recovery (repair).

I bought a Toshiba Satellite C55t-B5230 with windows 8.1. I failed to boot , and i don't have a recovery disk, or a win8.1 key, since it is built into the computer. How can I get the key?

I was hoping I didn't have to buy...but guess I'll break out the checkbook...Does anyone actually use those any more
