recently my hdtv stopped turning on, it would go on for a second with a hissing sound then off, When I opened it up I saw a blown capacitor, I had taken the dvd drive out thinking that was the hissing. I took the capacitor out then tried turning the tv on, If I try to play a dvd it turns of and hisses. will using it without that capacitor hurt it, I ran it for hours and it didn't act up. yes I'm positive the capacitor was on the power supply

Can you just replace the Cap, then you can be sure everything will be fine?

Even if someone on the board was an Electrical Engineer, they would need to know which Cap and the design of the circuit.

Hello... Ya sure, give it a try... get the Polarity correct!!! The important thing with that type of capacitor... an electrolytic capacitor like that is used as smoothing and reserve DC power to your system...
