Yeah, IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING NOTEBOOKS AND LAPTOP COMPUTERS. PLEASE CHECK FOR SCREEN SPARK AT COMPUTER START UP. THIS OCCURS WHERE THE START BUTTON IS ON THE COMPUTER INSIDE THE CASE and at the manual RESTART/RESET pinhole. THIS IS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD IN SPACE.

If you use classic mac ibooks the screens actually spark at start up or manual restart (the clamshell ibooks, they are a very old model of apple computer).
Do not take those into space if you are fan of classic notebooks or laptops, otherwise they were great computers.

If you are switching to notebooks, minis, or laptop computers please test them for the same problem. Sparking at screen start up and pure oxygen may not mix well.

They no longer use pure oxygen pressurization in the cabin any more. Although the Mercury and Gemini launches were successfully flown with pure Oxygen they kind of learned there lesson when the first Apollo crew burned to death on the launch pad.

VA, DOD, Energy Dept, and now NASA. Nothing like a massive, unaccountable bureaucracy to give data away that we expect to be handled property. Sad part is I doubt anyone will even get yelled at let alone fired for incompetence.

I feel sorry for the people at NASA who work very hard to ensure operations run smoothly, the one's who had no part in this. The one's who make sure the men and women who go into outer space are kept safe. The one's who will be out of a job they love, once the program ends. I cannot understand why potentially sensitive information wasn't properly retained but let's not tarnish everyone with the same brush.

I will miss the Shuttle program, too. I grew up with it..I even saw the Boeing 747 giving the Shuttle a ride on it's back, as they passed over our dump of a neighborhood. I remember being sent A4 postcards of one of the early missions landing in the California desert. I remember seeing a sunrise from space, on the live-cam, and thunderstorms spanning 100's of miles. I remember seeing some thing I couldn't easily explain. The Space program - at least on the surface - was a public interest, one that captivated the imagination and taught people there's more out there than you think, something bigger and something you are part of. I will miss being part of it, including watching launches, live-cam footage and commentaries coming in from afar.

I know my English is bad but this. "NASA Accidentally Sells Sensitive Data with PCs" when it clearly said, "NASA's shuttle PCs sold with sensitive data intact" I am sure my English teacher would make Jane M. to stand beside the wall for five minutes or so. Nevertheless, thank you for that article, there's hope for me, turns out I'm not that reckless. :)

As for the NASA personnel, what are they thinking? I am just wondering if the computer is still running before they shut it down and ship it away.

Is NASA so desperate for the 50 bucks coming from the sale of old PCs? They should have at least take out the old hard disks and just nuke it. Is it so difficult?
