1_What is your budget? $2000<
2_What is the size of the notebook that you are considering? 15-16"
3_What screen resolution do you want? 1920*1200
4_Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop? Somewhere between the middle and "desktop replacement". It would be on the good ol' table most of the time, but I might need to lug it overseas 3/4 times a year.
5_How much battery life do you need? Not really a concern, since it'll be on the table most of the time.
6_Do you want to play games with your laptop? TF2 (maxed at 1920*1200), MW2 (high?) and Starcraft 2 (probably high as well)
7_What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? Photoshop, Flash and multitasking.
8_How much storage (H.D.D Capacity) do you need? 500GB, prefably 7200RPM.
9_If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post the links to them. None, but need it to be able to ship to country and be covered by the warranty.
10_How long do you want to keep your laptop? 2-3 years.
11_What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ? DVD should suffice, I'm not really an avid movie watcher.
12_Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons. Asus (Good warranty), Dell and basically not those companies with some lousy warranty.
13_What country do you live in? Singapore (Somewhere in Southeast Asia.)
14_Please tell us any additional information if needed. Windows 7 64-bit, will install Ubuntu on it too. I have a two top choices, the Dell Studio XPS 16 and the Asus G51Jx-A1, and perhaps the Envy 15 (awesome graphics card), but heard lotsa nasty things about HP's customer services and its touchpad. but I am willing to take in suggestions if they meet the criterion. Not really interested in USB 3.0 unless it noticeably boosts the performance of something OTHER than the data transfer (don't really transfer big files)
By the way, is the i7 620m or 720QM better for gaming and in the long run?
