Need a OS for Old Low spec laptop!

Hello, I am looking for a OS for my BenQ Joybook Lite U101 P -SE25.
OS which can run in this laptop super smooth and no lag at all.

Notebook: Benq Joybook Lite U101 P - SE25
Processor: Intel Atom N280 @ 1.66 GHz
Graphics Adapter: Intel 945GME
Memory: 1 GB
Storage: 160 GB
Display: 10.1 inch, 16:9, 1024x576 pixels

Windows XP is probably the lightest on resources as far as Windows versions are concerned (excluding the dinosaur versions like 95/98), but I believe the Benq U101P ships with XP pre-installed anyway.

Your weak point isn't the OS, it's the RAM. 1GB isn't going to cut it if you want applications to run smoothly after Windows has grabbed it's share. Double it to 2GB or even 3 GB and you should notice a big difference in your Benq's performance.

I agree with that... with at least double the RAM it should run any Windows edition. I found several BenQ Joybook Lite U101's on sale that are said to run Windows 8 and 8.1 smoothly with 2GB RAM. As is, it should run at least a Starter edition of Vista or 7. Of course if you want it to fly, a Windows XP edition, the problem is Microsoft Support for XP ended this year except or the embeeded edition but aquiring a license for it may be a problem. And you can always resort to a Linux distro... several for low resource computers are available.. Puppy Linux being the lightest, but other distros should run well on your netbook.

Go for Lubuntu 14.04 LTS which is very light and needs only 256 MB of RAM to run.
