I have a Lenovo Ideapad U410. I have a Sades SA-708 gaming headset. Like many head sets it has 2 male plugs but my laptop only has one female plug. Now it says that this plug will accept either a mic or headphones or both.

So i went to radio shack and bought a splitter that has one male and 2 female. plugged it all in and the speakers on the headset are working fine but my laptops internal mic is the only one picking up sound. and i dont want that which is why i bought this headset in the first place. So i disabled the internal mic in the control panel but it is not even registering the mic from my head set.

My guess is the problem is the splitter. But I am not sure. I looked online for a while but had no luck. All other sources said that i just need to configure it. But its not being registered to even configure.

So if you have any insight on this or have a link where or what kind of splitter i should buy I will love you forever. If you have any more questions on this i will do my best to answer. Thank you for your time regardless.

You probably bought the wrong adapter. You know the little black rings on the 3.5mm plugs? The male component of the adapter should have 3 of them, instead of the 2 you see on the plug for your headsets speakers.

It should. The rings seperate the connectors for each wire in the cable, so if it has less of the dividing rings it has less connectors. The number of rings usually, if not always, matches the number of connectors. One ring on the connector for a mic, 2 rings on the connector for stereo speakers, and 3 rings on a connector that carries both stereo sound and a microphone.
