Solution
As an owner of the Y470 I do not recommend the Y470p. Both laptops are the same except the discrete graphic card. The Y470 has the nVidia GT 550m and the Y470p has the faster Radeon HD 7690m.

The reason for not recommending the Y470 series is the CPU temperature. While gaming it can typically hit 90C easily and when playing GTA 4 it hits 99C and the CPU start throttling. My Y470 has a dual core i5-2410m. A cooling does not lower the internal temps. The GT 550m runs relatively cool at around 65C - 71C.

I recommend going with the Y570 instead. The GT 555M is a bit slower than the Radeon HD 7690m, but the CPU runs at significantly lower temps. According to the article linked below, the Core i7-2630QM was running at 63C. You'll get a...

You'll get a little less gaming performance, but at least the Y570 should be safe from overheating and dying sooner than a Y470/Y470p.

Too bad you can't wait for the Y580 since it will have up to a nVidia GTX 660 discrete graphic card. I think lower end models will have the GT 640M & 650M. There will also be an option for a 1920x1080 screen instead of the lower 1366x768 screen.

Solution
The start price is estimated to be $900 for the Y580, but the optional 1920x1080 will add to the price. Also, I am not sure if all models will have the GTX 660m. If not then getting a model with one will also add to the price.

Estimated release date is "April 2012", but the Y580 is not even mentioned on Lenovo's site. At least the Y480 is listed as "coming soon".

I have just read this:

"The IdeaPad Y Series UK pricing starts at £799. "

http://www.thetechcentral.com/wireless/ces-2012-lenovo-reveals-ideapad-u-series-ultrabooks/

if that is the starting price it means £799 is for the Y480 and in US the price for a Y580 is USD 899 (GBP 560), so it is a better deal to buy a Y580 in US than in UK because the minimum difference of price is 239 but very likely to be much more (probably 350 GBP).
