I need a budget laptop for typing and online work only. Looking to spend around $600 dollars or so. Suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I like the build quality of the ACER systems. Like anything in that price range, don't expect it to last, most of them have 90 day warranty periods.

Comp USA $399 computer
$399.99 After Rebate
Features include Intel Celeron M Processor 380, 1.6GHz, 512MB RAM, 40GB Hard Drive, 14.1-inch WXGA TFT Display, 8X DVD / 24X24X24 CD-RW Combo Drive and Windows XP Home Edition.
Expires: 7/7/2006

Use the rest of the money to upgrade the memory and it should be ok.

That's a nice laptop, much better than anything out there for that price.

I recommend buying HardwareBosses notebook. Otherwise you are going to have to settle for "celery", a Turion is way better, plus 64 bit and a dedicated graphics card.

I followed that link.
Be careful that is not a widescreen.
The fsb is only 400 MHz
GMA 900 with 128 MB shared video on a 512 Mb system.
They're crazy, that thing doesn't get 4 1/2 hours of battery life!

Does a value line notebook make sense?

I wish I could better compete in this arena.
Compared to the Lenovo above the big differences would be
* 667 compared to 400 Mhz fsb speeds.
* Core Duo 1.6 Ghz vs. Single core Celery at 1.5 Ghz
* GMA 950 vs. GMA 900
* ExpressCard Slot vs. PCMCIA slot
* Widescreen compared to Old Style Square aspect

But buddy, remember that I have a budget. If I had 1000 bucks to burn yeah, i'd get that notebook. I'm only gonna use it for typing in Law class anyway. So please, give me another suggestion for a bang for the buck laptop in my range. Thanks
