Solved! need to do update but computer froze and can't click on anything

My computer is frozen, I can see cursor, but it won't let me click on anything. I have already turned it off and back on. I think I need to do an update, but can't click on the updates to start one

I'm assuming you're on Windows 10? If so, you may want to forgo updates, see if you can boot into Safe Mode and backup any and/or all critical content. After which, you should recreate your bootable(USB) installer using Windows Media Creation Tools and reinstall the OS from scratch. It'd be a good precursor to see if your laptop has any BIOS updates pending.
