I just re-upped for another year- and Netlink tried to sell
me one of those little dishes again! All I had to do was
point out that I live in an area that gets more than it's
fair share of rain, and what happens to the little dish
signals when it rains, and that was all it took to get them
off the subject of selling me a little dish. As an installer,
I -KNOW- what happens.... LONG LIVE C-BAND!
I had to laugh when I was in a Radio Slack a couple of years
ago, and overheard the salesperson telling a customer "Oh, we
have no problem with rain fade, we use only professional
installers, and they aim the dish so well you will never
experience rain fade". I felt like lowering the boom on him
right there in the store, but instead, I e-mailed Radio Slack
corporate HQ and reported his lying butt, and never heard back
from them.
I realize this is going to be off-topic, but I'm trying to
help a fellow ham radio op- anyone interested in a kilowatt
homebrew AM transmitter/receiver combo? 4-400a's modulating
a 4-1000a. $600 pick up only in Myrtle Beach, SC (two six-foot
steel equipment racks). Gotta be gone in 7 days (the owner is
moving and leaving it behind- it will be sold at auction on
November 20th if still in the house after they leave). It's a
very sad story, older couple, husband had a stroke, moving to
a retirement home, have to leave everything behind, all belongings
except for a couple of pieces of furniture are going to be
sold off.
