Hi,
I have an Dell Inspiron 1764. I have just upgraded the memory and bought a new battery because my old one had died. Now, when I am on the laptop, it will randomly shut itself off. And, after I shut it off myself at night then do a start up the next day, it always prompts me to reset the time and date. What is going on?

Forgot to say that the battery is registering fully charged and of good health.

Solution
Prompting to set the date and time means the CMOS battery has died or isn't connected.

The 1764 is relatively new, and most CMOS batteries last 7-10 years. So the fact that you're having this problem plus your other power problems suggests a short circuit or a bad power connection somewhere inside the computer.
