new battery but it doesn't work

i bought a new battery for samsung galaxy s it worked fine until it ran flat i tried my charger and the usb cable at first it showed that it's charging but in real it's not and now it doesn't even appear that anything is connected

Plug out the batterythen clean it , in the end place it in fridge with a plastic bag cover for 24 hours. Maybe it will work again.
