New battery not Charge

I changed the battery in my Dell Vostro 1700 & the computer will run, But the battery shows (not charging) any help

might not be a battery issue but a power adapter issue. if you were to disconnect the power adapter from the laptop, will the laptop stay on or shutdown?

Or a better question would be if you remove the battery does it power up with only the adapter? If not your adapter is faulty...

if I disconnect the charger with the battery out thr computor shuts down, & it will power up wiyh out the battery, I still have 69% on the new battery

laptop will shutdown if the battery is already out when you disconnect the adapter. see if laptop works with battery in & adapter disconnected. when did you get the new battery?
