New battery not holding charge

I recently replaced a dead battery. I get the "plugged in, charging" notification, but it never goes past 41%. When I unplug from power the laptop dies, so it looks like it's not holding any power. Do you think this is a battery problem or something else?

Could be a defective battery, a fake battery, a bad charge monitoring chip, the charge counting chip not correctly recognizing the battery, etc.

If you got a generic replacement battery from eBay or similar often questionable source, anything is possible. If you got a genuine replacement from a reputable source, try getting a replacement and see if you get any better luck.

I got the same battery as a replacement, from the same manufacturer. Made sure of that. So there is nothing I can use as a diagnostic?
