Ok I am in Kuwait for a year so I need a home entertainment, XBOX like system. This is in a effort to keep myself occupied and away from all the hot kuwaiti women who will get me in trouble with my gf, and killed by a angry Kuwaiti father, so I need this bad. :sol:

1. What is your budget?
Without a payment plan 1500-2000, but with a payment plan I don't want to go to far over 3000 if possible. Awsome builds may see more money if I can get a pay plan setup

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
BIG

3. What screen resolution do you want?
Doesn't Matter to me but higher quality is prefered

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Desktop Replacement

5. How much battery life do you need?
Not much it will generally be plugged in 24/7

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
New games as high as I can get the settings

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Maybe a bit of vid/photo editing, but it will be amateur in nature no professional work.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
I have a filled 500G harddrive right now and a couple portables full of music and movies, but I don't require it sitting on my computer.

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
Any

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
A good long while

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
Bluray with Read Write at least

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
No brand loyality

13. What country do you live in?
As stated in Kuwait, but I am a US citizen.

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
I think that is all you will really need.

and all the realistic knock offs
 i used to live in dubai, UAE...so i know what knock offs really are.

don't sweat mate, if you're a noob, then you've come to the right area - thas cos if you knew everything then you'd be just down right arrogant and egotistical

okay now lets break it down with what you've been advised;
Ok I was told get duel video cards if possible and two hard drives SSD if the price was right for the RAID 0/1 whatever.
these days laptops don't need the raid array...just isn't feasible IMO. If you were told to do a raid array(which i know you don't know what it really is) ...its actually for a desktop. a dual cards would mean doing crossfiring or sli'ing it. that too is something mostly seen...

Hey I like mini coopers.... I just don't wanna pay for a Ferrari if it isn't a Ferrari. Yeah that was the feeling I got from the site/price as well. I am relatively internet stupid now. Back when 486s were the thing I knew computers now I know nothing about them so I appreciate all the help.

Would it help if I showed kinda what I was looking at (the setup page) buying in the first place, but stopped considering my ignorance? Not sure if kinda the speced out idea.

well you helped out with the budget and following the guidelines to posting on Tom's - so just be on the look out for these laptops - amazon.com would have them in stock just a lil higher than normal. You could take a peek at the local computer stores in kuwait and ask them how much it'd cost you.

lets have a look at it then..

Ok I was warned off this company because several people I know had very bad dealings with the company. However its been over a year. I love MSI as well, but I am not sure if I want to do a stock purchase or some custom animal......

I was looking at the things you posted... Honestly I am just a lost little rabbit in the woods. Back in the states I shoot guns, and anything more complicated in the tech department I can use but I dont understand.... Unless its a HAM radio then I still don't understand. :p

I was warned off of the company and you are reinforcing it just fine. :) Yeah they seemed pricy I just don't know whats hot whats not. Basically you could show me a duel video card processer with some super XXXX GTXZQ on the end and to me it looks better then 1 really good vid card and a even newer processor that is like 20sx. Get what I am saying?

Ok I was told get duel video cards if possible and two hard drives SSD if the price was right for the RAID 0/1 whatever. Is that necessary, and if not thats fine I was kinda pointed that way. Frankly I dont care what I get and the ASUS looked sexy along with the MSIs looked great. Although I couldn't find where to get the ASUS is that the main site for them, and do I have to shop around for the computer itself?

In other words I am complete idiot on buying ..... You may have to say "You idiot shutup buy ______ be happy. That is all."

I just realized I see custom and some reason I think better.... I looked at the specs of the one MSI and you are right they are leaps better in several areas.

Also Kuwait is not the place to buy computers, IPAD, IPOD, tablet things yeah better then the US. So if you guys want anything like that I can find it here from the manufactuerer cheaper, and all the realistic knock offs. The computers here are sad though.

a GTX 570M is a mobility chip designed to GTX 580 specs but with some handicaps. with that price/performance you are in the sight of getting something better than a bang-for-buck range GPU.

usually most people have brand preferences or features not seen on any other manufacturer. but both MSI and asus offer specs for an avid gamer...like yourself.

now onto your purchase;
amazon.com ship to kuwait but you've gotta take care of the shipping and handling charges...which may be a lot.

BOOM;
MSI:

* i'd go with any of the MSI's - the higher priced one would be neat if you can afford it. But yeah your done searching now :)

Ok two questions here for you. First would the Video Memory 1.5 vs 3GB make much differnce? Also would 16GB memory vs 12GB make that big of a differnce.

I was comparing on newegg (ease mostly) your recommendations the GT78DXR-200US, and the G74SX-DH73-3D They seem to be comparable.

Also on that note what is the differnce between the 95,99, and 200U with the MSI. Am I missing something drastic or is it little things? Same goes with the ASUS

I was planning on hitting 3000 on this purchase so you have kept me down so far I am going to splurge on some games as well. :sol:

1| if your going to run that laptop off of 3 1080p monitor or one really large monitor like e 32" lcd monitor than yeah you'll need the extra GPU ram buffer. But in all honesty your gaming on a laptop screen for the love of all things :p so its just one monitor.

1.5GB on one high end card is better thatn 3GB on a lower end card.

2| a game or most applications can't even saturate more than 6Gb of memory. If you're going for a 16GB setup it'd mean you're trying to open a animation/rendering farm to topple Pixar studios or any architect out there in kuwait  which i know is silly cos you can tackle a person while looking down your sights not a laptop screen :p

the 200 has the raid you so eagerly were advised to get...though I'd say :na: to it. Your pretty much settle with the $18xx laptop for about 3 years of gaming provided you don't loose it in an air raid.

3000?!?!?! :ouch: well its your money to flush down the latrine for something that'll most probably have a short life span with what you intend to do with it.

I'd stick with the MSI cos you are getting something lower end on the GPU side on the Asus.

I do like to plug in a monitor sometimes with my laptop at home but isn't a requirement, but most my my monitors are about equal size to the laptop or slightly bigger. Not 32" so I doubt that will be a issue. Thanks for the help and I think I will get the a MSI I saw after posting the 99 has a 2 vs 2.2 of the 200 should I even care that much? If you say don't care about raid I am not going to, and yeah my friends are more desktop people then laptop.

and yeah my friends are more desktop people then laptop.
i figured as much.

First i'll explain and then give you an answer.

RAID is an abbreviated term but you need to know only two things. RAID 1 helps you keep two or more drives in mirror so if you loose one drive due to HDD failure than you still have another drive running as backup. RAID 0 keeps two or more drive running in series allowing to use two drives as one with the storage space doubled with an increase in speed. but if one of your drives fail , then everything is BYE BYE.

so IMO - don't get a raid on your laptop, get a normal HDD with the largest single drive you can find. adding an SSD will boost up boot time - making windows boot into OS in 30secs or less. but if you can't get it with the links i gave you...don't worry. chances are you'd be busy in duty instead of gaming and shooting real targets simultaneously

I am desk jocky, I move bullets and bombs, I just like shooting guns at home. I love strategy games of all things, but sometimes dabble in the graphic intensive shooters as well. Thanks so much yeah RAID seems a bit useless for the laptop. Thanks, and tell MSI to mail you check for your service in educating myself.
