Hi,

Most likely will need a bunch of freeware : goto ninite.com

you can download / install free anti-virus, read pdf and open office if you don't have office.

Also might want to get rid of crapware such as mcafee and such, you can download decrapifier to do that.

you can download it here :

the first thing i always do is a fresh windows install. the decrapifier type things do ok but nothing works like a clean install to debloat any new laptop.

after that, get the browser/add-ons of choice going plus some decent av software.

after that it is based on what you will use it for. install whatever you need to work with like office apps, games, editing software or whatever else you will use the laptop for.

If the person does not know what to do with a laptop after they get it, I doubt they will have a Windows disk around to do a clean setup, or have a spare Windows key to use since many new laptops don't have the key on them anymore. If things are installed that are annoying, going through the Programs and Features uninstall route should take care of things, just do it with someone that knows about computers do nothing that's needed is uninstalled.
