Hello Guys,
i am planning to get a new laptop soon, my dad is willing to pay 700 USD, but i will be adding 300 USD from my own money to squeeze a little more out for a good laptop.
Before I get to the specs I'm looking for, i will say a few more things.
Firstly, this laptop is for chrismas/b-day, and i'm anticipating it, i would like to get it as quick as possible, but i am willing to wait until early January (2011),for a major price drop on a highly recommended notebook. Like HPs Redtage sale, it is a sale were they get rid of overstocked items for a cheaper price.
Also, i live near Dallas TX, in a nearby city there is a FRY'S megastore of some kind, i have never been to it, but if some one points out a great deal that i can get at frys, that would be helpful, because my dad isn't very fond of ordering online with a credit card.
i plan on keeping this laptop for more than 4 years, i dont want a outstanding warranty if its going to cost me extra bucks.
i am planning on using this laptop for school work (not college) and gaming, and a bunch of other things: burning cds/dvds watching movies, listening to music, and doing a bunch of video/photo editing.
i want the best i can get for $1k.
Now here are the specs and details i am looking for:
Brand: Any
CPU: Core i5 520+, all the way up to Intel Core i7 720qm.
HDD: 250 GB+ : i don't want to be picky, because i will probably be adding another 600 GB aslong as theres a second bay, SSD would be nice, but is 100% optional, i dont need one at all.
RAM: 4 GB + DDR3
OS: windows prefered.
SCREEN: 15.6 + (17 or bigger is better).
resolution: the higher the better.
Optical: DVD and CD writter, slot loading is awesome but is not important, blu-ray is ok, but i won't be very enthusiastic about it unless i have a 1080p display.
GPU: i need a good graphics card ATI: 5000 series or a current nVidia card, i don't really care about the brand of GPU, but as long as they're good then i'm fine.
Wireless internet is very important,
SD card is also important.
3 usb ports is minumum, eSata counts as a USB port. i don't care if its heavy, and i don't care about a battery.
and one last thing about the laptop, it needs to have a good review. i don't want to get a laptop that i have to replace 10 times before i find one that actually works.
im looking at 2 different laptops right now: the HP ENVY 17 1010NR or 1011NR, both are great, but both exceed my range, so i hope that if i end up waiting HP might have too many instore
and i've also been looking at a deal at FRYS that i have seen online: HP DV6 2190US.
as i have said before, my dad is getting the laptop with 700+300=1000 and he isn't optimistic about ordering online, but if there is a great deal, at a well known retailer online, that i might not see at the shops themselves, then i will conside it.
i hope this covers everything, if this isn't enough. i will be glad to provide additional details. i will be checking this forum until i get the laptop, and i plan on posting about my choice online, for people who are thinking about one like me, or so people could say if they think i made a smart choice.
Thanks in advance!
