The whole argument is just plain ridiculous. People choose what works for them.

I'm in construction so I own a high-end drill. I know that most people only need a few screwdrivers though. Hardcore gamers should buy a 360 or PS3. They should also realize that most people enjoy the simple fun of a Wii and don't care about the downsides (no HD, slow CPU, etc).

Don't hassle people who have different priorities and criteria. You'll just come off as an ***hole.

this is why i sold my wii, I got a PS3 and quickly found that the wii is useless when standing next to my hi-def, blu-ray playing, hardcore gaming system

When I was choosing what console to buy recently I looked at a couple things:Value , Setup cost & content library.

Value
The 360 for $299 gives me the console and a controller. The PS3 for the same price give me the console and a controller. The wii for $200 gives me a contoller and a game.

Setup Cost
Despite what most people here seem to think HDTV's dont have the penetration of AM/FM radios in cars, there are a slew of people in the States and were I am in the world that do not have them,It is still a sizeable investment to own one. This of course ruled out the 360 and PS3.Internet connectivity was another concern of mine,im sorry i really dont feel comfortable with spending $100 on a usb wifi card for a 360(and no im not spending any money or time to run new wires in my house), thats just criminal, plus having to pay for multiplayer? The PS3's home looks promising and the fact its got connectivity well taken care of impressed me alot. The wii has wifi right out the box which is quite nice.

Content Library
Apart from a few exclusives I can live without(Halo 3,Uncharted,MGS4,Little Big Planet, etc)most of the big name games in the libraries of both consoles can be played on my PC.Ive gone through the gamut of genres and play types on my PC, the wii offered me something new with a new control scheme. As a added bones it has a couple games my girlfriend has gotten into(Zelda Twilight Princess for now).

Since I bought my Wii a couple weeks back ive enjoyed it immensly.I dont mind that it does'nt have nice sharp and crisp HD output or the fact it cant play DVD's or Bluray(they have dedicated devices for those that are cheaper than most consoles) I just wanted a fun console that was different and didnt any loans just to get the thing setup.HDTV's dont have the market share of SDTV's or desktops for that matter. Not making WII Fit run at 60fps at 1080p didnt help it sell its massive ammounts of copies, substance over style.

Odd. koss64 neglects to mention that a PS3 and an xbox 360 do not require an hdtv to function. As to internet connectivity (though this is a matter of opinion) I have yet to see Wii content that I would feel even the least bit inclined to play online. Which brings me to the issue of the Content Library. 1). We're talking about consoles. If you have a PC and can find a PC port of a console game, it is obviously to be preferred. If not...well that's what we are discussing. Besides, I find it funny that Wiimotes work better with pc's than wiis, but that is neither here nor there. Personally, I remain unimpressed with the Wii's software library, but you should not in the least use my opinion as a testament. Instead consider that I have seen software for the Wii sit on shelves for months with the notable exception of anything with Mario on the cover. As to the Wii Fit, considering it's intended purpose, I don't think it matters what resolution it comes in, it wouldn't make you lose weight any faster than it DOESN'T now. In other news, implying that a console is a better deal because it comes with a console, a controller, and a collection of sports-based mini-games, makes it a better deal is simply irresponsible. You wanna play baseball, play baseball. But just because many people are apparently being mislead, let me repeat, THE PS3 AND THE XBOX 360 DO NOT REQUIRE A HDTV TO PLAY GAMES. If you are in the market for a game console, don't let anyone tell you that you shouldn't get a console because you don't have an hdtv. In the Wii's defense, if you have enough cash to buy a console, you most likely have enough money to buy something to play DVDs. Add that to the fact that it has built in wifi, a novel control scheme, and the focus on multiplayer gaming, and you have a pretty enticing package. If you want a console that your girlfriend will enjoy, that's a different matter entirely. What I can tell you is that it all comes down to enjoyment of the product. If you buy something that you don't enjoy for $100 dollars less that something that you would have enjoyed...you are an idiot. If you enjoy the wii and it's software, get a wii. If you enjoy the PS3 and it's software, buy a ps3. If you enjoy an Xbox 360, buy an Xbox 360. All this article means is, if you believe it, that if you were waiting for a High-Definition capable version of the Wii, your wait is over.

Keighley: It's not coming, period?
Reggie: No.

So this means it is coming? I mean No to a no means yes...

It's simple: Nintendo is where Sony was 6 years ago: the trusty old console (ps1) was selling by the million and the soon to be released PS2 was a curiosity, the PS1 continued to outsell it until several years after it was released. Microsoft wanted a piece of the gaming and home media pie and came out with the first Xbox, forcing Sony to put the petal down on improving the PS2. A few years later the 360 came out and Sony was still milking the PS2 AND the PS1 for all it was worth before releasing the PS3.

So Nintendo is the new Sony, Sony is the new Microsoft, and Microsoft just won't stop pouring money down the hole until your TV runs Windows.

Why rehash a new console for a game system with old hardware. Like many have said it has trouble even with todays titles.

Like I've said before it's a novelty game system. Sure there are maybe 3 to 5 good titles but the rest are same garbage nintendo/sega have put on their consoles. I'm not saying that sony/microsoft are any better but at least they have more top selling games, and that's funny because wasn't Nintendo outselling them all this time?

I mean outselling console wise. Also here's a question supposedly wii sports was the top selling game however it was bundled with the console HOW CAN IT BE A TOP SELLING GAME WHEN IT COMES WITH THE CONSOLE!? I see topselling games that you buy separately from the console.

Thylacine, point taken but on the matter of using the RCA cables that come with the 360 and the PS3 most sites that deal with these things properly will tell you that using a non HDTV with these consoles is like using a garden hose to out a fire on a 4 storey building. On the matter of what the console comes with at least you get a game that shows off what the system can do without having to spend an additional $50 or $60 just to put it through its paces.I take your points though if you want a HD console to go with a 50" plasma then look elsewhere.

I don't have an HDTV however my TV does use the component HD cables, compared to the regular old yellow TV output there is a major difference in clarity.

I swear, the Wii is a smaller more sleek Gamecube with controllers that have no cords. I only play mine when friends are over for SSBB, Mario Kart or Bowling while we drink. The only game I play alone is Twilight Princess. And that was on Gamecube too!!!

wow, how many of you haters actually own a Wii and a family?

Wii's are for families, not die hard gamers who play single player shooters. i have my computer for that.

my Wii is for my wife and son. and it is for when the grandparents come over, or my sister.

So the Wii isnt HD. i bet the next console Nintendo makes will be and i bet it will play all the games of previous consoles, just like the Wii does now. the variety and multiplayer games that Nintendo has make it more worth while than an Xbox or Playstation. those are computers dumbed down for the kids that parents dont want touching thier computers.

the Wii is about family fun, not single player gratification.
