[citation][nom]w1zz4[/nom]Nintendo typically doesn't name its next generation console based on a previous console's title. Sure, the Nintendo became the Super Nintendo, but that aside, it's always been a new name. And Nintendo64 as probably no relation with Nintendo and Super Nintendo...[/citation]
Well yeah, but Nintendo is the BRAND name, not so much the system name. There was the N Entertainment System, the Super N, the N 64, the N GameCube, and the N Wii. But you could really consider them to be named, ES, Super, 64, GameCube, and Wii. That's not redundant.

i still think that they did it because they dont want anyone to have a name closer to theirs and they renewed it because ppl are most likley waiting to that to not be renewed so they can take it its just to cover their backs from the name copyers

[citation][nom]back_by_demand[/nom]I think it's more to stop crap Chinese copies appearing on the grey market with a generic Vii name on it and fooling people into buying it on a mistaken name value.Yes they do exist, just go round crap value shops and there they are.[/citation]

That's what came to my mind. You can find many cheap knock offs at flea markets with a bad variation of the name.

[citation][nom]back_by_demand[/nom]I cant think of a good Wii joke, so i'll have to revert to a Goerge Bush joke instead...Cheney hands Bush figures for troop losses in IraqFirst page says 2 Brazilian soldiers were killedBush holds his head in his hands and starts crying"Oh my god, how many is a Brazilian?"[/citation]
LMFAO!

[citation][nom]w1zz4[/nom]Sorry, forget Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Light, Gameboy color, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Advance SP, Gameboy Micro.Sure Nintendo don't like using the same name over and over...[/citation]

I agree, Other then the gamecube all other consoles and portables have followed the same name. NES, SNES N64, Gamecube,Wii. 70% same name
DS, DSlite, DSi.
and you covered the gameboy stuff, so it looks to me that other then the Gamecube and Wii everyone followed the one before it.

what happen to the good old TH days where people knew what they were talking about.

How about a single player system called the Mii?
How about a larger box version called the Fii (fi fo fum)?
A male centric system called the Hii...

Instead of Zii, maybe Nintendo should have trademarked 'iiZii'. They want their system to be accessible to everyone and iiZii to learn.

Nintendo isn't retarded, they're just protecting themselves from bad imitations, so we don't see products with names like: "Mii Fit Plus". Smart move, IMHO...
