[citation][nom]tenor77[/nom]Basically in value for your dollar, you're overpaying for your Wii. Nintendo has to do this though. Sony and MS can count on game sales for profit. Nintedo makes its money on peripherals. Hell they've made peripherals a 4 letter word years ago (power pad, light gun, powerglove), and it hasn't gotten any better. You plunk down money for a cheap piece of crap that is used by two games and gets no support.[/citation]
I think you got that wrong. Nintendo writes or owns more of its own games than Sony and even Microsoft. Remember, Nintendo created the whole idea of console game licensing in the early 80's, thats what Nintendo Certified means.

Sure, they sell peripherals too, but that's not where they make the bulk of their money. Except for Halo, name one other game owned by Microsoft that does well for their console? Now think of every game on the Nintendo that uses one of their famous characters (Mario, DK, Pokemon, etc...).

Sony and Microsoft just release machines and games, Nintendo has a whole franchise (anyone ever watch the Super Mario Bros show as a kid?). The consoles and games are just a part of that. Heck, they spawned off Pokemon as its own company it was so damn popular.

Nintendo makes profit on hardware and their games. If you look at sale data, Third party titles on xbox 360 sells way more than on Wii. People who bought Wii look for games with name containing "Wii", "Mario", etc. If your game's name doesn't contains those letters, good luck to you. Wii is a kiddy console no matter how you put it.

While it certainly doesn't need a price cut if Nintendo were to give some of that savings to the consumer I bet we would see even more sales which Nintendo would more than likely make up for the price cut in the first place. Plus the people who buy the console will buy games and accessories.

foxyg - Yes, a kiddy console that my mom, grandparents, uncles, etc. just happen to love and play all the time. My mom had a fit when someone broke my Wii Sports disc. These people have never touched a console before. Maybe its kiddy cause only people under 80 play it...

they should burn that Wii on a 45nm process, and equip it with a Radeon 4870 instead!
Then I might buy it; provided if there will be games that could benefit out of the graphical boost.

I'm actually glad to be in my current age group(35-50), because I no longer have to call a video game console "kiddy" or "just a toy" to try and impress my friends. Bar-none, the Wii gets more playtime than anything else in my house right now - all my toys, er, consoles are in the home theater room w/HD projector. Don't get me wrong - there are times when I want to play a couple hours of "Grand Theft Halos of War Solid 5", but nothing beats having the extended family over for a few rounds of Wii Sports or even watching them get grossed out as I decapitate some poor fool in MadWorld, oh wait, Wii isn't for the "l33t hardcore gamer", so I should probably get rid of that disc, along with HOTD Overkill, No More Heroes, Manhunt 2, etc.

I like the Wii personally, but I don't like the idea of paying for junk hardware.

For the 280 CAD it costs, I can guy a 2.6ghz pIIx3, 4 gigs of ddr2 800, and a ati 4670.

Cheap hardware for a mad price through all I'm concerned. I'll stick to my PC games.
