No sound from Sony HT-CT390

Hello everyone. I recently bought a Sony HT-CT390, and I can get no sound out of it. The system is connected to my Hitachi 50HYT62UC via Hdmi cable as my TV doesnt have an optical port for that cable. The soundbar is set to TV mode and yet there is no sound coming out of it when the TV is on. I run everything that comes out of the TV (Dvds Netflix etc) from my xbox. The system does produce sound when I use bluetooth from my phone and yet is still silent from the TV. Can anyone help with this as it is very frustrating. Many thanks.

Did you connect the Sony to the HDMI-ARC (HDMI 1) input?
Did you turn on ARC in the TV audio menu?
You may need to turn off the TV speakers and change the audio output type in the TV menu?
If you can't get ARC to work the TV seems to have a coax digital audio out that can be converted to optical audio.
