No sound when connecting laptop to TV

I've read many of the threads suggesting that I set HDMI as default, and even then i get no audio. I'm using an Acer Aspire, any help?

hdmi should be set as your default audio device, yes.

what is your windows volume set at? what is your tv volume set at?

does right clicking on the hdmi and doing "test" produce any sound?

are your drivers up to date?
